Rocket Kings

Rocket Kings

Saturday 27 April, 8:30pm

Free Entry

Original songs. Top tunes. Melodies. Harmonies. Reading's Rocket Kings released their second album ‘Paving the Way' in 2023 to glowing reviews. They'll put a smile on your face! This is the sound of 'ukepop' and they're bringing it here to The Smaller Stage! Look at these reviews:

  • "Harmonious, easy going and melodic with a 10/10 feel-good factor, Rocket Kings deliver a sound that will happily settle in your ears and leave you humming along unconsciously." ~ Amplify Music Magazine
  • "You get the feeling that this is a group of friends getting together and having the best time. They radiate positive vibes whilst blending catchy tunes and harmonies over rock/pop with a side hustle of folk." ~ Joyzine
  • "What you'd imagine The Beautiful South would sound like had their roots been in the pastoral south of England rather than its industrial north. Delicate and delicious in equal measure" ~ The Big Takeover
  • "A true sonic thrill"... The Spill Magazine
  • "I want to listen to this album while going to the beach or having a garden party. I’ve never had a garden party but there should be Rocket Kings playing and umbrellas in our strawberry lemonades." Chasing Destino
  • "As some wise soul once proclaimed, “This Is Pop!” and it holds true here... Let it move you, make you dance, toss your cares to the wind; it’s that infectious, that compelling." ~ The Big Takeover
  • "She’s going to Mars' is a... "powerful Uke Pop banger, a catchy tune to shake a leg or go to space to." ~ MangoWave Music Magazine

Quirky Corner Unplugged

Tuesday 7 May, 7:30pm

Our Unplugged Nights started off in Quirky Corner in early 2014. Their popularity soon outgrew Quirky Corner and we've been holding these acoustic evenings every month since then.

Our Unplugged Nights work like this: you can come along and perform solo, as a duo or trio, with or without a musical instrument, as long you don't plug in!

Everyone is welcome to come and watch and listen too.

In the cooler months we hold our Unplugged Night in the bar and in the warmer summer evenings we hold it in our Star Marquee in the garden, aided by a couple of ambient mics.

If you wish to eat here, please book a table by calling us.

In the cooler months (September to March), we also hold Slightly Plugged Nights for those acoustic musicians who'd like a bit of amplification and the chance to perform on stage.

The Magical Mystery Four

Saturday 18 May, 8:30pm

The Magical Mystery Four, as you'd expect, is a Beatles covers band based in Reading. They have been together for 6 years. Whilst they do not attempt to look like the Beatles, nor impersonate them, they do play authentic renditions of the Fab Four's more rocking numbers, with particular care to replicate the vocal harmonies of the group. The band uses some authentic instruments and even wear some Beatley clothes.

The Magical Mystery Four receive rave reviews wherever they play, whether pubs, clubs, weddings or festivals. So, for a night of Beatles indulgence, grab your tickets now!

GIGS IN THE GARDEN

The Sing-along-a-Nick Summer Show

with special guests, BoxSet

Saturday 1 June, 7:30pm

Sing-along-a-Nick returns for the trio's biggest show of the year with an extravaganza of cheesey tunes from the past six decades - songs to get you warbling at the top of your voices!

As ever, the show will include gadgets, costumes, wit, gags, audience interaction and bags of silliness. It's more than just a gig: it's a uniquely feel-good experience!

Nick is on piano and leading the singing, Mister Minch on double bass and Bradley on drums.

Last summer's show played out to a packed garden of happy, jolly people enjoying humour, music (and the odd drink) like no other.

We're honoured to have BoxSet here to do a set of their wonderful interpretations of classic songs on guitar and accordion - and the duo will be joining the Sing-along-a-Nick band on stage in their second set! It's going to be great!

It's free entry and you'd be mad not to come along (and you're pretty mad if you do). Please do register with us so we know numbers in advance. Just send us an email.

The Flowing Spring's Hats Off To The Writers, 14 September 2024

HATS OFF TO THE WRITERS!

A day of live music celebrating original songwriters

Saturday 14 September 2024, 1pm onwards

Admission price tbc

This will be our third Hats Off Party in the garden, this one celebrating the talents of songwriters by having a whole day dedicated to their music.

From 1pm till late we will be entertained by up to 10 musical acts, some new to the big stage, others more established, some solo, some larger bands, but all performing their own material.

We love hosting originals bands and we hope, with the prospect of a whole day to indulge in a wide range of musical styles from the writers, we'll get a bumper crowd in and show massive support for these artists.

We will be listing the bands here along with timings as soon as the list is finalised.

We'll have an outside bar, a food tent and our annual Hats Off contest. The challenge for this year's hats is to make them relating to music or musical instruments. We'll have our Hats on the Hatwalk parade and judge the winning creation!

  • If you're a songwriter/ originals band and wish to apply to play at this event, please email us. Just a few slots left.
  • Original material only. Strictly no covers.
