This is a very popular Food Week so please book your table early.
SATURDAY 21 SEPTEMBER
Nick the landlord drags out the dusty old piano and clears his crusty old throat for another night of clattering, perfectly enhanced by guitar virtuoso Steve Lester, Paul Minchinton's gumbling double bass and the cheery voice of Nicky Furlong. It's an evening of collective singing with the aid of specially printed songbooks and lots of humour. Tuneful voices are NOT a prerequisite!
If you wish to eat here prior to the performance, please book a table as soon as you can as it gets ridiculously busy.
THE FLOWING SPRING CLASSIC CAR AND BIKE BREAKFAST CLUB
In its fourth year, our next Sunday morning Meet is on Sunday 8 September 2019 from 9:30am to 11:30am with bacon rolls, tea, coffee and refreshments available. This is the penultimate meet of the season.
SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER
We're very excited to welcome the legendary John Otway to The Flowing Spring for a night of music and mayhem. He'll be performing on stage in the marquee to a limited number of guests. This event is now sold out.
SATURDAY 16 NOVEMBER
Hot off the press is the news of a special themed night here at the rub-a-dub in November.
We’re celebrating all things Cockney and East End on Saturday 16 November and you’re in for a right treat.
We’ll be serving up a menu of traditional East End food such as salt beef, seafood, pie, mash and liquor, Chinese, a ruby or two plus fruit pies and crumbles, all to authentic recipes (but we might skip the jellied eels).
And there’s a lot more going on than just food.
First, of course, you’ll need to brush up on your Cockney dialect and dress East End style. There are so many choices, from pearly kings and queens to market traders, musical hall performers to gangsters, Eastenders characters and much more!
And an East End pub wouldn’t be complete without a singalong so we have some crazy cockney musical entertainment for you, making for a right old knees-up.
And, on top of all that, we’ll be joined by a very special guest. You’re in for a right old bubble.
We’ll no doubt dress the pub up East End style too just for those finishing touches - and, for one night only, feature a classic, somewhat familiar London premium ale.
Many of you will remember our Victorian Night two years ago, the last themed event we put together and which many declared one of the best nights ever here. Well, we’re aiming to make Cockney Night just as special.
Cockney Night will be a ticket only event (price to be finalised) with meals to be pre-ordered once we’ve completed the menu.
SATURDAY 6 JUNE
Our third Springstock outdoor music festival is booked for Saturday 6 June 2020 and we're beavering away selecting the line up for it. Each year it gets bigger and better, so expect great things! Tickets will be on sale later in the year. If you wish to follow what's going on with Springstock and you have a Facebook account, Follow Us at https://www.facebook.com/springstockfestival/
TEN YEARS HERE IN 2020It's hard to believe that we will have been running this wonderful pub for a whole decade next year. It's certainly something worth celebrating so we'll be putting together a special series of events in the summer and autumn of 2020. We're keeping it all hush-hush at the moment but it's worth setting aside Saturday 12 September 2020 as one date not to be missed!

SEVENTIES REVISITED NIGHTS
Take yourself back, if you can, to those halcyon days of the seventies. Great British glam, prog and punk rock bands, funk and soul at its best, the Silver Jubilee, Bagpuss, the Clangers, Ceefax, decimalisation, the first Space Invaders, British motor manufacturing, insipid beer, the winter of discontent, Scargill and Thatcher... (well, it wasn’t all good!).
For two nights only we re-lived the decade with a menu of seventies inspired food, drink, sweets, cakes, non-stop music and memories.
We decorated the pub with 100 images, furniture and knick-knacks, playing nostalgic tunes including post-dinner groovy funk, soul and disco, getting into 70s fashion and food to make you smile!
It all happened on the evenings of Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March and included an Advocaat Snowball on arrival and Pick’n’Mix sweets to take home.

Over an hour of the finest entertainment.
Alongside Kelly were several locals who tried their hand at stand-up for the first time - and very successfully. We might invite local people to have a go at future comedy nights, alongside the stars! Our Fifth Real Ale and Cider Festival

Joining Nick were guitarist Steve Lester, singer Claire Mahoney and fiddle player Peter Crowther. It was a packed house once more with everyone singing their hearts out.
STUART HENDERSON'S JAZZ NIGHT: 'CHET MEETS CLIFFORD'
On Tuesday 21 February two of the twentieth century's most iconic trumpet players, Chet Baker and Clifford Brown were celebrated with Stuart Henderson (trumpet and flugelhorn), Graeme Taylor (piano), Raph Mizraki (double bass) and Simon Price (drums).
DENNY ILETT AND BAND IN THE MARQUEE: AN EVENING OF SWING AND BLUES
On Tuesday 18 April we welcomed the fabulous world-renowned guitarist Denny Ilett to The Flowing Spring, backed by four excellent musicians.
Denny Ilett is director of the Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival, long term collaborator with James Brown's band, highly respected in New Orleans and a world stage performer.
He appeared on stage in our marquee singing and playing guitar alongside Tim Pilling (piano), Stuart Henderson (trumpet), Raph Mizraki (double bass) and Simon Price (drums).
SING-ALONG-A-NICK WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
Saturday 10 June, 8pm
Nick wheeled his old pub piano out again for another night of classic singalong songs. He was joined by special guests Steve Lester (guitar) and, all the way from Tenerife, Louise Laing (vocals). We had a bumper, noisy crowd in for this excellent night of dubious singing!
DOG DAY AFTERNOON IN AID OF BATTERSEA DOGS AND CATS HOME, SUNDAY 18 JUNE, 3PM
Our fifth annual Dog Day Afternoon took place on Father's Day in the garden; a celebration of all our customers' wonderful dogs. We raised over £200 for Battersea
NICK AND HAZEL'S PARTY TO CELEBRATE ACQUIRING THE FREEHOLD
We celebrated the purchase of our great pub from Fuller's, making it a free house the first time in its 220 year history. We had superb entertainment and hot food, all happening in the garden. We had members of RyeWolf performing on stage in the garden followed by 3 Buck Shirt - a fantastic five-piece band playing funky blues, boogie and country. Over 200 people enjoyed the summer's evening soaking up the atmosphere in the garden and on the balcony.
18-22 July 2017
Our annual Burger Week was a smash hit with 12 different scrumptious burgers to choose from priced at just £6.95 for a burger on its own - and a pint of draught ale, lager, stout or cider for just £3 more.
Saturday 30 September we held a unique event. With
the Henley Road closed we thought it would be an ideal time to
appreciate the pub as it might have been over 100 years ago, with no
traffic and noise - just peace, tranquility and the countryside.
70 people dressed up late-1800s style and enjoyed
frontage of our old pub, with hay bales, old barrels, a cart and old
lanterns, sitting on the benches under the roadside verandah
which are over 100 years old.
We celebrated the opening of the Henley Road next to us after 10 weeks of closure. Any excuse for a party.
So we asked everyone to dress up in a motoring theme, whether as a classic car driver, a biker, a traffic warden, chauffeuer, car mechanic... .
We had beef, chicken and vegan burgers and pizzas all served in take away boxes with orders taken by Nick dressed as a trainee fast food server.
And we held our own indoor Scalextric championships. It all happened on Saturday 18 November 2017.
SPRINGSTOCK FESTIVAL 2018
Our first ever Springstock Festival was everything we hoped it would be.
The weather was perfect, the music from the seven bands was superb and the atmosphere was wonderful.
250 festival-goers relaxed in the sunshine in the pub garden to a great blend of music, striking up at 2pm with King Size Slim, all the way through to Led Zeppelin tribute band CODA whose final chords rung out just before midnight.
Eight casks of real ale from Tring Brewery were consumed (560 pints), 5 boxes of still cider (180 pints), countless bottles of wine, bottled lagers and soft drinks - plus almost 300 meals.
The months of planning certainly paid off with all the food consumed, all the beer and cider lapped up and, most impressively, every band started on time, thanks to the expertise of our soundman Spencer Brooks whose engineering was nothing less than perfection.
King Size Slim kicked off the show on stage at 2pm. Realising the crowds were settling into their chairs in the shade, he took the initiative of joining them on the lawn, performing acoustically. It was a real delight. Then followed Steve Morano and his band with his summery blend of self-penned country songs that wowed the crowd.
Next it was the turn of 3 Buck Shirt with their mix of blues, stomp and boogie which initiated the first group of dancing hippies.
The dancing continued through Dr Bluegrass and the Illbilly 8 with their banjo and fiddle jangling bluegrass versions of well-known hits. Great fun.
Then the music cranked up a notch with the powerful quartet Northsyde featuring blistering guitar work and raunchy female vocals.
At 8pm we were treated to the quirky, funky, flare-swinging tunes of acid jazzers Corduroy with the crowd growing in front of the stage, grooving to the beats.
The finale was CODA who performed Led Zep tracks with reverence and skill, thoroughly enjoyed by the masses to the very last note.
Of course the immediate question posed by so many after the event was: “Are you doing Springstock again next year?”
The answer is an emphatic ‘Yes, on Saturday 1 June 2019’.
MAGIC CIRCLE NIGHT WITH DAN BOYLES - SOLD OUT
Thursday 23 August 2018
We were delighted to welcome one of the country’s top magicians, Dan Boyles, for a night of jaw-dropping illusions. We had 61 people mind-boggled by Dan's tricks. Great fun!
MURDER MYSTERY NIGHT
Saturday 15 September 2018
There was murder in the air in September when we hosted our fourth Murder Mystery Night featuring our excellent group of actors and a specially written plot.
Ageing rock star, Tristan Shout (pictured), performed his farewell gig but his dubious past and hedonistic lifestyle came back to haunt him, with fatal results.
There was a whole queue of likely culprits all with good reason to seal his gruesome fate. The sell-out audience were fed a three-course meal, entertained, given clues and plenty of red herrings in a bid to work out whodunnit.
It was great fun and two tables successfully worked out the culprit - but not before a surprise climax to the proceedings!
We will hold another MM night next year.
PIE AND A PINT WEEK: Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 October 2018
had 11 delicious pies to suit all dietary needs, with meat, fish,
veggie, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free choices. And a pint of
draught beer, lager, stout or cider was included in
SING-ALONG-A-NICK: Saturday 17 November
EIGHT YEARS HERE PARTY: Saturday 8 December
Valentine’s Night might be about candlelit dinners and bleary-eyed soppiness in some places. But not here.
For the third year Sing-Along-A-Nick was back for an evening of catchy well-known songs around the piano with Steve Lester delicately stroking his guitar and Paul Minchinton plucking his double bass. As ever, it was a sell-out night and a whole lot of fun
Our fantastic rock and blues festival returned for its second year on Saturday 1 June 2019. We had over 300 music fans in the garden for this one-day event featuring a host of top bands. The weather was superb again. Over 1000 pints of beer (Tring real ales plus draught lager and cider) and all the food (including barbecue) consumed.
The music kicked off with the Incredible Spring Band performing a blend of rock and blues classics. Then we welcomed the return of Steve Morano with his band and special guest Nicole Monique Johnson playing Steve's self-penned catchy Americana-style songs - perfect for a sunny afternoon.
Next we were treated to 75 minutes of powerful rock and blues from Storm Warning. The garden rocked!
At 6pm it was the turn of Xander and the Peace Pirates. Wow. What a band. It's extremely rare to discover a band with such a unique sound and oozing such emotion. We must get them here again, all the way from Liverpool, for a special event some time soon.
Stanley Dee was the penultimate act doing a great job of Steely Dan's best known tracks. The brass, backing singers andd guitarist were particularly impressive.
And then the climax to the event: Mercury! Gracing the stage at 10:10pm, the band put on a really slick show. Everyone in the garden was on their feet singing and swinging to the fantastic sounds of Queen for 90 minutes.
A stunning end to a stunning day of music, beer, food and good company.
Photos coming soon.
